YouTube Video Comments
Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 12:29PM Just posted another YouTube video comment over on YouTube - YTC018 - iPad2 - but I think I'll stop embedding the video here. It's starting to really mess up the look and feel of the blog.
Also, it's more helpful if people comment on YouTube rather than on the blog (for various reasons which I'll explain in more detail tomorrow). The main one is that the comments get fragmented and split across two services.
If you want to subscribe via RSS to receive the YouTube video comments you can use the link below:

That should work in most RSS readers!

@Multitasking. There are a couple of great i-phone/pod applications out there and the lack of multitask really is annoying. Just imagine having an ssh/vnc session opened, next to it there is your messenger while you are still able to look up something in mobile safari. Now all of this apps could have their on window (maybe even resizeable) on the ipad an run side by side with no problems. But since there is no multitasking at all, everytime i want to reply to a chat or look something up i have to close the ssh/vnc session and reconnect when i am done :-/
Even surfing on the web and getting some chatmessage is just annoying at the moment. You have to close down safari, go to the messaging app. Reply to the message. Close the Messenger app, open up safari. And by the time you are there you probably allready received a new push notification. There is so much space on the ipad. Why can't i get a little pop up on the bottom right of the screen. Click on it and have a little chat window opened, without ever leaving safari?
Lets have a look at Things touch. It can't update its badge in the background. The only possibility would be that the developer launches their own push notification server. And the only possibility to sync it is having it opened on your iphone (and THINGS on your mac of course).
Every new Mobilephone OS (and even and very old one *cough*) supports Multitasking. At some points the iphone OS feels so "out-of-date"!
OT: If i enter my email adress here, will it be public or only visible to you don?
Only visible to me I think!
The lack of MT on the iPhone is the reason they've adopted push notifications?
Well Things hasn't adopted it yet. But they announced, some time ago, some new way for over the air syncing. So maybe its coming in the future.
The Problem is, asfaik, that in order to support push notification you have to have your one server, running the service.
But if you mean if it's the reason why apple adopted it. Yeah definitly. The developers needed a way to get information to the user even if the application itself isn't running. Since Apple didn't wanted them to have a background process "eating up memory and cpu" the "invented" push notification. There are pros and cons. Better battery life sure is a pro. But not being able to run apps side by side, especally on the ipad, sure is a con!
OT: I entered my email adress. If its public, please delete it.
best regards
Mike
Don, I quite like the embedded video's. Could you not embed and disable comments, or even redirect the comments?
Might help you read a wider audience too.
